Greetings Brethren:
Fall is a time of transition and change. This is also a time of significant change for our Lodge. We came together as West Shore Lodge just a few short years ago, and just a year later we had made the decision as a Lodge to divest of our Rocky River property and focus on our Avon Lake property. We knew at the time there’d be significant work needed on either building, but we chose to put our efforts into making Avon Lake the home of West Shore Lodge. Since moving in, among other things, we’ve created a phenomenal Chamber of Reflection which greatly enhances candidate experience, we’ve worked hard to declutter and right size our belongings, and we took advantage of an unique opportunity to expand our property to the north, allowing for some future growth potential.
However, there is still more to do and our property is still in need of TLC. I’ve heard the brethren loud and clear on the desire to see further improvements and updates. Yet we’ve struggled coming together in consensus on what those next steps should be. To be fair, they’re big, scary and expensive steps, and there’s a lot of fear and concern about doing the wrong thing first.
Time, however, will not be kind to us if we continue to deliberate and hold off from action. We have some means at our disposal now to get started on some of this much needed work. I believe the time is now for us to bring our discussions into Lodge, take advantage of opportunity, and choose a course of action to continue improving our building. There are passions and preferences on first steps, but we all have one common vision - to make the Avon Lake building our home, and one to be most proud of. I believe we can do it, too, if we just take those first steps to action. I encourage you to come out and have your voice heard, and to lead our Lodge in those first steps to making our building a home we can be proud of, one that helps lead men to Masonry.
Change like this is never easy. This Lodge, however, has shown we’re up to the challenge. Our Masonic work has demonstrated our dedication to this Fraternity. Our members serve the Fraternity across the range of bodies, and our officers have demonstrated just how proficient they are with the ritual. We’ve raised 13 men since we started in 2021. We’re getting recognition across the District for what this Lodge is capable of. Few Lodges can boast of accomplishing all that we have in such a short time. Whichever way the Lodge chooses to go with these project(s), I am confident our decisions will serve the Lodge well and continue to build us a home we will treasure for years to come.
Fraternally,
Bill Marshall
Worshipful Master
